Recording Stock Movements
Every change to stock is written to a movement — an append-only ledger showing what moved, when, how much and why. Stock → Movements shows the combined history.
Movement types
| Type | Direction | Raised by |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase | In | Receiving a purchase order |
| Sale | Out | Shipping a sales order |
| Adjustment (add) | In | A manual correction upward |
| Adjustment (remove) | Out | A manual correction downward |
| Waste | Out | Spoilage, breakage, spillage |
| Return | In | Material returned to stock |
Recording a manual adjustment
Use one after a stocktake, for spoilage, for damage found late, or to correct a data-entry error.
- Open the material.
- Record the corrected quantity — the difference becomes the movement.
- Choose the movement type that explains it.
- Add a reference and a note — this is what makes the ledger worth having.
Write the reason down. A movement labelled STOCKTAKE-07 — two boards found checked and unusable tells you something months later; a bare adjustment of −3.5 tells you nothing and looks like an error.
